Word For The Day, Tuesday, April 12, 2011
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
quab
-n
An unfledged bird; hence, something immature or unfinished.
[Cf. D. kwab eelpout, Dan. quabbe, G. quabbe, quappe, LG. quabbe a fat lump of flesh, and L. capito a kind of fish with a large head, fr. caput the head, also E. squab.]
The ongoing argument....!
(Every place it’s posted the 288 vs. 2 camps are still going at it!)
The M&D in PEMDAS are equal operators and go left to right...On some of the places I’ve seen this, the vitriol is downright scary...
Still going at it.

Sorry, you are wrong. I can pull up numerous sites showing the precedence of mathematical operations.
think she does or did Glenn’s 4th hour of the radio show, which is probably on the internet and not really broadcast, i am not sure?
I was taught to sort out all equations inside of ( ) first, then proceed from left to right....when did the basics change? Huh?
Then do it. Do the math inside the parentheses, then go from left to right. You get 288.
ROR!!! you are absolutely right!
We don’t even get the 3rd hour of Beck here, until 9 PM at night.
Not to be confused with 9 PM in the morning.
48÷2(9+3)
Parentheses
48/2(12)
Left 2 Right
48/2 = 24
24(12)
288.
Are they kidding? If it’s running ads, it should be free!
Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally.
Please excuse (my dear) (Aunt Sally.)
M and D, left to right
A and S, left to right
That’s the part that everyone forgets.
48÷2(9+3)=?
9+3=12
times 2 is 24
divided into 48 = 2
IN the OLDEN TIMES we didn’t leave it in ()....we multiplied that out.......good grief. They changed that?
Did you go to Hebrew school? ;-)
That’s doing it right-to-left.
