If we're going to allow abortions in this country, does that mean the taxpayer has to fund abortions? It's basically a dumb argument. You don't get to fund the gubmint a la carte. Do left-wingers get to opt out of funding wars? Do libertarians get to opt out of funding the DEA? You might be able to shoot down some funding here and there using the argument (dumb arguments sometimes work), but it is basically just politics, not reason.

No, it's not a dumb argument. To your first point, one of the roles of the federal government as stated in the preamble is to provide for the common defense. So yeah, the leftist have abdicated the nations common defense to the government by staying U.S. citizens. The drug war, I would agree needs a lot of revision and I'm not sure that we should go along with prosecuting someone for smoking dope.
But lets put that aside for a moment. The two examples you cite are the government providing common services for the general benefit of society. The government providing a direct service to an individual for his personal benefit is a completely different argument. It falls in the same line of argument as food stamps, welfare payments etc.. A direct transfer of wealth from a citizen (taxes) to provide a service or benefit to another citizen (abortion). So by saying you are for the government funding abortions is the same as saying you are for the government funding people to live in houses, to pay for their groceries, health care etc..
