This would seem to be the essential point, which no one has commented on.
You can agree or disagree with circumcision, but I suspect that this is more of a political or ideological decision on the part of the Portland hospitals than a medical decision.
I would guess that she is not Jewish, but Christian. Maybe somebody should have pointed her to the Book of Acts, where the apostles held a Council in Jerusalem and declared that Jewish ritual law, including circumcision, was no longer necessary for Christians.
But it's not forbidden. And an argument can be made that in general it is a good idea from a health point of view--fewer infections are likely.
I don't recommend doing it at home. But I suspect a bit of left-wing antisemitic bias on the part of those hospitals. How many of them perform sex change operations and other much more dangerous operations, which are completely destructive?
