A few years ago, my husband bought a Walther P22 for me. I like the idea of having a .22 handgun, but this gun hasn't been a good fit. I've shot a couple thousand rounds, at least. With all that practice, you would think I'd be getting tight clusters, right on target, every time, but no. I know how to shoot, which makes this even more frustrating. I do much better with heavier guns and calibers (.40 and .357) but want a .22 in the family arsenal, such as it is.
The Walther sometimes stovepipes and even my husband, who is very much an expert when it comes to firearms, has told me he doesn't like the Walther. I've tried the Sig Mosquito, which I love, but don't want anything that requires special ammo.
So, I guess I have two dilemmas. First, should I sell the gun? On one hand, I want to say, once you own a gun, you should never get rid of it. One of my kids may fall in love with it someday. On the other, I don't like it and never will.
My other question, is if not the Walther P22, then what? I want something small enough to carry but heavier, like the Mosquito.
my humble opinion, firearms are as personal, if not more than a car...sometimes its time to ‘trade it in’ when there becomes more hate than love in the relationship...
I will NEVER sell my Dan Wesson !
I like my Beretta Neos 22LR. Easy loading mags and easy disassembly for cleaning. (and it look like something out of Star Trek for around $225)

All firearms are serialized on the Frame/Receiver (post 1964) any other numbers have no value as to the ATF
Correction, 12 double-stack rounds.
I also have a Beretta 21A Bobcat .22 cal:
The Bobcat is good shooter also.
For target shooting none of the above can hold a candle to this Ruger .22 Cal Mark II Competition Target Model NR, that I have, I tried optics for a while and went back to the OEM sights.
In my opinion the .380 is only good for 2 things - stray animals and summary action.
Contrary to some advice here, if you don’t like it and don’t want to shoot it, sell or trade it for one you do want.
I’ll go along with those who nominate the Ruger Mk II or Mk II or 22/45. The Beretta or Taurus .22 tip barrel is pretty cool, too, shoots well withing the expected range and is light and easy to carry. Not the greatest carry gun in the world but better than nada!
I got the same model for my wife a few months back; have not had time to shoot it. You likee? any comments or advice would be well-recieved.
I know it is only a .22; I figure with the high capacity I will pester the intruder until he gets so irritated he'll just go away.
great for the range and plinking, but like the Mosquito it prefers CCI MiniMag
I had one. It was crap.
The cylinder / barrel gap was uneaven and too tight in places. That combined with it shaving lead caused to to bind, so you had to keep a bronze brush on hand to clean off the lead. When it got a bit dirty, the cartridges wouldn’t seat fully without a lot of pressure, so you got first strike misfires. (to be fair I’ve had this happen with a Smith too)
The rear sight blade is held in with two screws. If they loosen it falls out. Taurus will only sell you the whole rear sight for $45.
Like I said, it was crap.
And if it’s you’re idea of smooth in DA pull, you haven’t fired many good revolvers.
There are at least two sources of .22 slide/magazine conversions that don't require any changes to the frame, just slip 'em on and swap magazines. You might try that.
Full disclosure: I have had the conversion for some time but only recently got the full frame colt, it mounts as advertised but I've not had it to the range.
I would recommend at least a little more gun, but like I said, it's a personal choice.
Don’t blink
Two rules in life never to be broken.
Rule #1. Never sell a gun.
Rule#2. Never sell a hunting dog.
Feel free to give them to your buddies. This is the way the world is supposed to work.
“If youre talking .22 target shooting, it doesnt get much better than a Ruger Mark III (or II).”
Indeed. But you’re better off to get a II. The III is so loaded down with extra “safety” crap that it barely works compared to the II. The III’s loaded chamber indicator frequently causes the III to stovepipe, so you’d probably want to remove it from the gun and throw it away, which is pretty easy as there are plenty of online guides that show how to do that.
