I explained this earlier,
You the Mark, Are greedy.
You say to yourself, if I talk to him, maybe I can convince him to take your money so you can become a secret partner. He says he won’t take anyone’s money, but how can he refuse more money, these things always overrun what you think they will cost.
....
....
....
The mark convinces himself that he can convince Rossi to let him in on the ground floor. Rossi plays it cool telling him no but still surprisingly keeps picking up the phone when ever he calls.
Rossi says, you know, I like your interest, I don’t need any money right now but I would like to add you to my progress reports that I give potential future investors. In order to get them, you have to sign a Non-Disclosure agreement
Ok, you see where this is going, if you want more, you have to pay me...
I don’t see how that would still be secret. As soon as you find out you’ve been cheated, you’ll come out. Unless you are too embarassed.
But I suppose if someone is stupid enough to ignore a guy telling you not to give him money, and you give him money anyway, but make it so secret nobody even knows you gave him money, and there is no legal record that you gave him money, so no way for you to get it back, I’m not sure that I am going to feel all that sorry for that person.
On the other hand, it’s the perfect conspiracy theory — “See, he’s taking money by fraud, but he’s doing it by telling people NOT to give him money, which makes some people so crazy they FORCE him to take the money, but it’s all so secret that nobody can possibly know about it. Except me, of course, and you since I’m telling you about it, and of course all our readers. But don’t expect any proof, because I just told you it’s a complete and total secret so nobody knows.”
A key to most good conspiracies is something that can be entirely explained in a way that the explanation also perfectly explains why there is no evidece of the conspiracy.
