I think he was the model of the French scientist in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.

That is what I have heard also (about his being the Close Encounters Frenchman).

I haven't actually read anything of his but have some acquaintances who say he is credible. And of course he was one of the speakers at the Global Competitive Forum in Riyadh back in January of this year.
