Saw some of the old RF output stages when I was in tech school, those water cooled vacuum tubes were massive and able to handle lots of power.
The logic levels we use in our present electronics keeps dropping and dropping with time. This is a good thing power wise and heat generated wise, but is a bad thing in susceptibility to RF interference. Who knows how sensitive electronics years ahead of our would be. Heck, they may not have had a reason to harden them in respect to high powered RF for all we know.

There was purportedly significant shock that any of our technology could do any of theirs any harm.
There’s also reports that lightening sometimes crashed their craft . . . also, until adjustments were made.
Time will tell.
Certainly the radar units used at the time were massively powerful, as you noted.
