Customer: "OMG...you have Paul Robeson tomato plants? I love Paul...he was a icon in the music industry, and a devout communist; dedicated to social justice. How much?"
Vendor: "Uhhh...ten bucks, or four for fifty dollars."
Customer: "OMG...I'll take four, please."
Liberals...like taking candy from a baby,
Some growers SWEAR by this method...it is believed that the sound vibrations stimulate plant growth; similar to running a fan on the plants several times a week. There is an outfit by the name of ‘Sonic Bloom’ that uses sound on their plants...my seedlings are looking exceptionally nice this spring...playing music is the only thing I ‘added’ since last year.
This is true. I worked in the markets selling bee products for a dozen years or so and we tried a stall in a new, guv subsidized market that was starting up. Short version: the new age, commie, sustainable urban core types were ga-ga over the mystical powers of the humble bee and, had we decided staying was worth it, we were going to increase prices 15-25% just because of the ding-dong factor.
‘Ding-dong factor’...perfect! LOL!
Hmmm, I’ve got my Pandora set up for punk, I’ll have to blast some out and see how they like it.
The 'Paul Robeson' name also enables vendors to sell this tomato to other liberals at inflated prices...maybe it was named by a capitalist, after all...hmmmm.
That's good. LOL.
Appropriately for Robeson's legacy, the variety originated in Siberia. :-)
Well nothing, including me, will be listening to anything out in the greenhouse until my last husband gets around to fixing the power to the barn. I thought it was the radio, so I brought it into the house to see if I could tune it in properly and it worked with no problem -— LOL!!
Who knows when that will occur as he is over at our Pastor’s house fixing her lawnmower, that’s her rental fee because we need to borrow it once he cuts her grass ‘cause we need a new one.
Although my library is hard rock/metal; some of my heirloom tomatoes are real partial to that ‘funky’ sock monkey song from those Kia commercials (”How You Like Me Now”)
'Story' has it that someone in a greenhouse noticed that plants growing on tables next to the aisles seemed to be stockier and more lush than others away from the edge. They determined that the reason was because the employees would brush up against the plants as they walked back and forth in the aisles. Ergo; we wave a stick over the tops of the plants or run a fan on low speed over them for an hour or two...vibrations from music for the same effect.
True? Got me. Mine do seem nicer this year... :-)
Could be true as the kid I beat the most grew up to be 6’6 and 220#. (just kidding!)
Anyone out there ever use seawater as a foliar spray, or as part of a watering regimen?
I have never heard of it and gardeners closer to the surf put up wind screens to keep the salt spray off their plants locally. My late BiL used a baking soda mix on his plants to head off mildew...
...and yet many use an epsom salt solution as a foliar spray on their plants...hmmmm.
Thanks txhurl. When I was a kid my family went hunting for wild morels, puff balls and shaggy manes.
LOL, I need to google for a species ID book before I can start doing it again.
Cedar for sure, pine and birch up here too.
Good luck with the tomatoes and peppers!
Come to Canada.
I have friends in Oshawa, and absolutely love Alberta and southeast British Columbia...
Perhaps Donald Trump will save the United States.
Remember Back to the Future?
Doc asked Marty ‘Who is the President in 1980?’
Marty answers, and Doc screams.....
“Ronald Reagan! The actor???”
LOL!
Speaking of back to the future, the rains took a couple of days off and I got out in the garden for a few hours and planted the last of my strawberries and installed the Micro-Drip on the bed. I discovered that the new Vietnam garlic I planted last year could have been dug 2 or 3 weeks ago and was starting to re-sprout. That would be a month earlier then the Chinese Pink and over 2 months earlier then some of my main crop garlic that I start digging in mid June.
I am having a hard time getting motivated to garden plus someone took my young mind and put it in a old mans body and I can hardly lift my feet to walk. We have gotten behind in the greenhouse so the next rainy days (starting tomorrow) we will put in some long tedious hours transplanting my wife’s flower seedlings into 6 packs...
