The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Wednesday that they hired former Los Angeles Police Department chief Bill Bratton to assess policies and procedures regarding security and fan services at Dodger Stadium.
The move comes a week after a San Francisco Giants fan was badly beaten by two men wearing Dodgers gear after the season opener. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Bratton, who will work in a consulting capacity, will also develop a best practices security plan that extends to both the stadium and parking lots
Bratton and his Kroll security consulting team will begin immediately, according to a Dodgers press release.
"I am pleased to have the opportunity to return to Los Angeles to consult with the Dodger organization on the security posture at Dodger Stadium," said Bratton in a statement. "We will take a full and comprehensive look at security procedures and processes, and make recommendations based on our findings

Good hire. Bratton knows his stuff and Kroll is a good outfit.
Rumor has it that the guys who beat up the victim were gang members. They weren’t merely Dodger fans wearing Dodger gear who decided to beat up someone in Giants attire.
Rumor also has it that there has been lots of trouble with gangs at Dodger Stadium in recent years. For some reason, these youth gangs want to go to the ballgame. Unfortunately, gangs create a hostile environment wherever they go, and that’s a part of this story which isn’t being reported.
Anyone who has been to a Dodger game in recent years knows that the stadium is infested with these troublemakers. And there have been previous incidents where fans have been attacked in the parking lot.
Bratton's a good man, but unless Dodger stadium brings in uniformed LAPD officers, it won't make a bit of difference.
The gang bangers don't have any fear of the Security Guards that they employ now, but they will to an LAPD officer who is wielding a batton.
I think that the damage has already been done. Many fans have already said that it's just not worth risking their life over going to a baseball game...
This is lame and oh by the way it burns me up too. As if we weren’t pissed off enuf at POS Frank McCourt. Bring in another “expert” from the east coast. Even though Bratton was LAPD chief for a few years, so what. He won’t be here until the first day of the next homestand.
Also, the article fails to mention the Dodgers left the post of VP for Security vacant since the end of last season.
Soo..... if the cavalier McCourt was so sure that all security measures were “in place” at the time of the beating, then why call in the “expert” to reassess security and why fail to mention the Dodgers didn’t even HAVE a head of security “in place?”
We are screwed as long as McCourt is owner and as long as PC fears prevail.
Bratton was more interested in sucking up to Hollywood celebrities than in doing his job. He is/was a politically correct fool who refused to arrest illegal aliens.
Terry Anderson used to play a tape of Bratton from a radio interview. Someone asked Bratton about Special Order 40 and why wasn’t he picking up illegals. The fool Bratton told the caller “if you don’t like it, leave California”.
Those aren’t rumors, and they aren’t “youth gangs”.
The gangbangers infesting Dodger Stadium are hard adult parolees from prison. They are shave headed heavily tattooed thugs who like violence. In the La Raza world gangs are multi-generational. Going to prison is regarded like going to grad school.
Right on. I came to really dislike Bratton after he revealed more and more of his PC stance, and had no idea how he ever acquired such a terrific reputation. I think he’s been sucking up all along, wherever he is, because of potential political ambitions.
This is going to be another useless expenditure by a-hole McCourt and will not remedy declining attendance.
