I live about two miles from the A&M campus, so I was yellin’ for the Lady Ags. They’re dancing in the streets in College Station and Bryan tonight.

I actually have no allegiance to either. I was TT > Trinity so we were anti UT and anti Aggie.

Gary Blair is an outstanding coach and a great guy. I worked for the University of Arkansas when he was coach of the Lady Razorbacks and have a lot of respect for the man.

Congrats !!!

I was a Stanford fan, but the way A&M has played the past 2 games, they deserve the championship.

I can only imagine how they’re celebrating down there, as well they should. Hopefully it doesn’t get out of control. I’ve not been able to cheer for Maryland since it won a natl championship a few years ago, and students celebrated by trashing the host town.

Watched just the last few minutes. It’s a pretty sad day when the Women’s championship game was better played than the men’s; and I hate women’s basketball.

Volleyball is a whole different story. The women’s game is much more enjoyable to watch.

I thought there was one gal on the A&M team that was quite attractive.

If you are looking for “HOT”, check out the women’s coach at Oklahoma. The Baylor women’s coach is very good-looking, too,

LOL, it won’t get out of control. Respect and honor are big traditions in The Texas A&M community.

Even though I’m an Arkansas alum, I recall some of the fans going wild on Dickson Street (the main drag in Fayetteville just off campus) after a Razorback win over Texas and trashed some cars years back.

In defense of the U of A, I don’t think they were students, but just some drunk townies who are the worst fans in the world. Still, it was inexcusable and more than embarrassing.

That would never happen here. It’s a very different environment.

Especially when the young ladies wear those 3” lycra shorts that leave no curve covered.

You’re gonna make me back off my anti-Maryland stand. As I think of it, poor ole U of MD is fairly close to a tough suburban DC area where crime is rampant. So it could be not so much its students. I’ve always liked their basketball coach. So maybe next season I’ll cut them some slack. How generous of me, eh?

I never thought for one moment that there would be any problem at FL when they won. Gainesville must be a similar environment to College Station. My brother’s brother-in- law and nephew live down there and are HUGH Aggies fans (alum, too, IIRC).

It was even better when 'bun-huggers' were the uniform bottoms of choice around 20 years ago.

Blair has really turned things around here. Here’s the Wiki on his years at A&M:

Blair came to Texas A&M in 2003, taking over the Big 12 Conference’s worst team, which had not had a winning season in seven years. In his first season with Texas A&M, Blair worked very hard to attract fans to the women’s basketball games, and by the end of the season attendance had increased 71 percent over the previous year, the best increase in the Big 12 Conference. For the first time in his career, however, one of Blair’s team suffered a losing season.

The following year the Aggies improved, earning a postseason invitation for the first time since 1996.

In his third season with the Aggies, Blair guided his team to their first Associated Press Top 25 ranking in ten years. The team won 23 games (losing 9), the third-most victories in school history and a tie for the most victories in conference play ever (11 wins, 5 losses in conference). The team finished third in the Big 12, and reached the semifinals in the Big 12 Women’s Championship Tournament. With a Number 6 seed to the NCAA Tournament (A&M’s first such invitation since 1996), Blair became only the fourth coach in NCAA history to take three different schools to the NCAA Tournament, although this became his only appearance where his team lost in the first round.

Following their successful season, Blair was named the Women’s Basketball News Service National Coach of the Year.

Overall, in his first three years as the head coach of the Aggies, A&M home attendance increased 156%, with a school-record 11,088 fans watching the team play Baylor University.

In the 2006-2007 season, Blair’s Aggies again scored over 20 wins and reached the NCAA Tournament, this time as the fourth seed, and advanced to the second round of the tournament. This marked the first time in Aggie history that the women’s basketball team had earned consecutive NCAA tournament berths.

On February 20, 2008, Blair posted his 500th career win as a head coach at Reed Arena against the Iowa State Cyclones.[

In the 2007–08 season, Blair led his squad to a school-first NCAA Elite Eight appearance and a 29–8 overall record. The record remains to be the winningest season in team history. The team also won the 2008 Big 12 conference tournament title. In the NCAA tournament, the team lost to eventual national champion Tennessee. After the season, the Texas A&M Board of Regents approved a one-year contract extension through 2012, and a $150,000 salary raise to $800,000 annually.

On March 29, 2011, Gary Blair led the program to its first ever Final Four appearance by defeating top-seeded Baylor 58-46. On April 3, 2011, the Aggies defeated top-seeded Stanford 63–62 to advance to the national title game. On April 5, 2011, the Aggies defeated Notre Dame in the championship game to win the tournament for the first time in school history. Blair also became the oldest coach to win.
