Finally saw the rest of the show...for what it’s worth, here’s my thoughts:
Jacob - Oh no he didn’t! The self-righteous comments, the white suit, the song that would have been way more enjoyable but got scratched for “moral reasons”...if the Powers That Be had put up a sign behind him saying “Hate This Guy!” it couldn’t have done more to Jacob than he did to himself. If you wanna make the world a better place, start by sending Jacob home!
Haley - I have yet to hear a contemporary singer who can do Janis with the passion and intensity it was meant to be performed with. Haley did her best, but it’s hard to sing Blues when your only speed is Lounge.
Fozzy - When I heard the rumor that Casey and Haley were an item, I hoped some of his mojo would wear off on her. Sadly it seems to be working the other way around. Casey of all people should know how silly it sounds to add so much embellishment to an earthy CCR song. And WTF did Randy mean about making the upright bass cool again? Paging Brian Setzer, please pick up the white courtesy phone...
Lauren - You make me feel...you make me feel like I’m watching a pageant. Not bad, but nothing we haven’t heard before. A solid Meh. Side note - Gwen Stefani sucks as a stylist.
James - Of all the weeks for him to hit it out of the park, he decides to take a walk! It was okay, but I was too distracted by the gentle glow of light through his ears to remember much about the performance.
Scotty - Would have preferred “Heartbreak Hotel”, but I still liked it. Didn’t care for the “spontaneous” flock of girls at the end, but whatever.
Pia - Gwen Stefani’s clothing line must be designed to make every woman look worse than she does. What other reason is there for taking an attractive girl like Pia and making her look like a rodeo clown? Performance was good, but lacked that “wow” factor I was hoping to see from her tonight. Kudos for performing in that getup with a straight face, though.
Little Ricky - “When a Man Loves a Woman”...I guess he got it half right. He sounded scared to death out there.
Dr. Teeth - If Johnny were still alive, this might have been enough to finish him off. If Fulsom Prison inmates were forced to listen to this, Amnesty International would have them investigated for human rights violations. The first iTunes sale of this song will probably be to the Activities Director at Club Gitmo. Call me biased, but as a hardcore Cash fan dealing with a cranky baby all evening, this was the last thing I needed to hear tonight.
Glad to get that off my chest. See you all tomorrow!
Glad your little one got some sleep finally! I am not ready for that horrible teething again...
Here is my review:
Lusky stank- whoa, he condemned us before he sang. This will hurt him. However, I loved his rendition; I hate that song but he sang it better than anyone else on AI ever. He has an amazing voice. Lusky, do. Not. Dance. That swishy hip move he has is so so so wrong.
Haley - can we just call her growly? She needed to lose the growl from weeks past, not do an entire song in growl! I agree that joplin was rolling in her grave. She had no belief in that song. When Janis sang it (and when I sing it in the shower), she felt it. And everyone listening felt that broken heart.
Lauren was ok. Didn’t like the hair, don’t like that song, but she was ok.
James - he moved me. My oldest has aspergers and I know life can be very hard for these guys. It got to me. My son is not yet mAture enough for such a moving tribute to all we’ve done for him over the years, but I can imagine it one day and it makes me cry. He sounded good too. Didn’t need that last lambertian note, I thought.
Scotty “W.” neuman - he was perfect. With eyes closed he was absolutely amazing. He was funny and sweet even with my eyes open. He is sweet and talented. He will be very successful. I cannot believe he is 17.
Pia - she is becoming terribly annoying. And she will never go home because she has a good voice. Ugh. First of all, she is sounding very full of herself in the practicing clips. Second, she was dressed in wrapped sheets. Children’s sheets. She did walk around, yes... She did do an uptempo song, yes... But it was as if she was standing in one place ballading again. It was boring as heck, and all she does is yell. Too much intensity and she does not believe her songs.
Stefano - little Ricky, I was such a fan! But you are not able to understand the advice you are given. You were told to own the song, to make the song work for you, but all you did was to copy the original and let it run away with you. You have so much promise. Now you will be packing your bags tomorrow.
Paul - he was really fun, but the smiling was ridiculous. I enjoyed the performance though. He is what he is. He can be fun! It’s too bad he can’t really believe his songs either, but he was just fun enough to bump himself up from the bottom and send little Ricky back to the Tropicana as someone said. :)
LOL! Brian HATES AI, too. So much so that he put it in one of his songs. :-( Guess we know why. LOL
"Stray Cat Strut" would be a great song for Casey to sing, but I can't imagine Brian would give his permission for it to be used.
