Lauren’s confidence is eroding. To me, this says, she’s not ready for the big time. Her confidence should be not even an issue at this point. I like Lauren but maybe she’s just letting self doubt get in her way. Self doubt can wreck a singer cuz it’s hard to hide. I hope she snaps out of it, I really do.
Definitely, Lauren is sweet but super young young young. You should not be filled with confidence as a barely 16 year old, but she’s not one of those rare young girls with super poise. She’s in stark contrast to her buddy Scotty, who is way more poised for his age.
I do not like the fakeness of Haley and feel she is emphasizing the wrong things, whereas I feel that Lauren understands her voice, her direction, and is honest. I wanted to see Haley head home first, but I just don’t know.
If I could slip into Jimmy iovine’s pink glasses for one weds night, I’d tell Haley to tone down her phony smile and superficial sex appeal. I’d have her sing a song with deep lyrics that she can believe, like a Joni Mitchell style story song, and only get loud or intense for maximum 3 seconds within the song. I’d have her use her softer voice with the killer unique tone, and no smiling. Just passion.
But Jimmy will probably advise her to sing loud, and show more leg.
She needs to remember that she outlasted Pia Toscano, Jacob Lusk and Casey Abrams.
No small feat for a just-turned 16 year old.
