Your take is correct, I have also been married for 48 years.
When I find something I like and love, I tend to stay with it.
I know that is not very adverterious, but I know what I love, experimentation is not on my radar. ;)

Some of the best fried chicken I have had was at West Point. I was not a Cadet, too stupid for that, but a computer consultant (salesperson).
Back then a salesperson came in with that new fangled half pressure cooker/half fryer gizmo.
I was working with the WP chef doing projected meals. You know, are we gonna have 300 or 3,000 or 30,000 meals to serve today stuff?
Anyway, we tried this Boaster and it increased production 400%. Most important, we put in a touch of nutmeg, dry mustard and ginger ale. Immediate HIT.
Talked with the head chef last summer. They still use my recipets and quantitative programs. Very proud of that.
