i would disagree a tiny bit. it’s more than them wanting to be comfortable in their sin. that want their sin to be accepted as good and right and THE WAY things should be. they reject the real way things should be. they want it their way.
another way i say this is that they want to be God, in that they want to define what is good and what is evil. they reject what God has defined as good or evil...they want THEIR definition to be THE definition.

not disagreeing, but I think you are both right, but not just that they want their sin to be accepted as good and right, but that they want it to define freedom guaranteed by America's founding. All the while rejecting the idea that God has anything to do with their inalienable "freedom."
Therefore, supplanting God with government, and acting as God's themselves.
