And they wreak destruction on wild birds, as Univ. of Wisconsin research documented. A few years ago some group in my community was trapping feral cats, vaccinating and otherwise medicating, neutering them, and releasing them. But I haven’t read of that recently.
An acquaintance of mine is a county game warden. He said feral cats and the people that feed them have put a big dent in the local native animal population, especially birds, lizards and frogs. They in turn have become a food source for the booming coyote population.
The coyotes prey on not only the feral cats, but the house cats people let out at night.
Ain't that the truth....we adopted "Boo" when he fell or was dropped off a stone ledge into our yard by his feral mother....he weighed 14 oz....5+ months later and he LOVES to run around and track me, and try and take me down by grabbing my legs. He still bites some...but amazingly has become a very friendly kitty, who even loves to "interview" others who come into our home.
