Does any FReeper live where he/she can buy SunCrest orange soda?

Once upon a time, back in the days of my childhood, there was an orange soda (or as we called it, an "orange Co-Cola") called SunCrest. NB: this is SunCrest, not to be confused with Sunkist orange soda, which was only introduced in the late Seventies). I vividly remember drinking buying bottles of this out of the Coke machine at the local laundromat when my family was washing.

SunCrest was created and originally marketed (1938) by the NuGrape people. But in 1982 it was bought by the Monarch company of Atlanta, GA and it became very scarce, as Sunkist pretty much moved in and took its place. In 2007 the Dad's Root Beer company bought it from Monarch and, as I understand it, it is now sold only in Indiana (though a few nostalgia and specialty businesses still sell it in its vintage bottle).

A couple years ago I actually e-mailed the Dad's company and asked local businesses to begin stocking SunCrest again, but apparently the Dad's Root Beer people are simply not interested in marketing this classic vintage drink any more.

Does anyone else on FR remember SunCrest? Are there any FReepers fortunate enough to live where it can still be purchased today?

A lot of small bottling companies died off, and many great drinks were lost with them.

My favorites that aren’t around anymore are Marvel’s Gingerale and Frostie Root Beer (although it came back for a couple years around 2000).

Plus, don’t get me started about Maryland Rye Whisky going extinct.

No, but I remember Nesbit Orange and Strawberry. Unbelievably sweet, but I loved ‘em.

Yes, that's one of those specialty shops. But since FReepers live all over, I'm hoping those who can actually buy the current product at their local convenience stores will identify themselves.

I think it's sold in Indiana, but I'd really like to know whereabouts it is still sold regularly.

There was also a Sunrise orange (as well as Root Beer) in the midwest back in the 60s. Another soda I remember fondly was 76—lime and lemon flavor (predominately lime) in a green bottle with a fife and drum illustration. One can mimmick the flavor by adding the juice of one lime to Sierra Mist or Sprite.

I hope that you find what you’re looking for at the links provided to you already by helpful people, but let me ask a question: Doesn’t all orange soda pretty much taste the same no matter who makes it?

Yes, but SunCrest isn't one of them. It is still bottled and sold by the Dad's Root Beer Company, but not marketed very widely.

I'd like FReepers who actually have access to the current product to identify where it can be purchased regularly rather than as a nostalgia specialty.

Here’s the link to the Sun Crest current owner’s email:

info@dadsrootbeer.com

They also sell Dad’s Rootbeer products (including Bubble Up):

http://www.dadsrootbeer.com/buyonline.php

Alas, the Sun Crest soda is not listed on this page.

Do you remember Mission Bell orange soda? Mmmmm...the best. In the 1940’s, it was a nickel a bottle and you got twice as much as Coke, which cost a dime.

Mission Bell Cream Soda was my favorite...ice cold, plucked out of the cooler in front of the grocery store. The bottle opener was on the side of the cooler. So refreshing after a hard day of rollerskating; Ring-a-Levio; stickball; and “I Declare War”!!!

(Yes, I am very very old.)

At one time this was no regional brand (though that's what it is now). it was the organge soda of NuGrape, which was marketed nationally. Unfortunately, NuGrape has now disappeared locally, though this happened only a couple years ago.
