The stars came out for former President George H.W. Bush tonight as three former presidents, Nashville and Motown royalty, prominent politicians from across the political spectrum, diplomats from around the world and more than 30 members of the first family of modern American politics paid tribute to the volunteer efforts of the 41st president.

Carter and Clinton had no business being on stage with Bush. They’re not worthy to shine Bush’s shoes.
I think President Bush has been a good influence on Slick. First honorable male role model Clinton has ever had. Don’t know if any of the Bush class rubbed off on Bill, but it can’t have hurt.

Glad you cleared that up ... I can see honoring his active duty military service, but I get sick of “public servants” celebrating their “public service” and the “sacrifices” they make to get excellent salaries, superb inflation-adjusted pensions, extraordinary lifetime medical benefits, limitless opportunities for lobbying, corporate directorships, etc. after leaving “public service”, and aircraft carriers named in their honor.
Heck, GWB was merely properous when entered “public service”, but now has a net worth over $20 million. Clinton, of course, has done much better ... before becoming President he never held a job that paid more than $35,000 per year and now has a net worth of $35 million.
Public service? Bah!
But the Bubba that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For to H W Bush much was given, of him shall be much required.
I fear H W Bush has a monumental beating coming his way soon.
I suppose I should add that I don’t begrudge them of their money. Rather, I begrudge them for acting like they have performed a more valuable service than, say, the garbageman who picks up my trash on Tuesdays and Fridays. Personally, I appreciate the service of the garbagemen far more.
All those socialists on stage together, makes me want to throw up.
Next W will get some phony feel good award but it doesn’t hide the facts of their socialists behavior.

I never feel obligated, but rather, grateful when I slip the real “G Men” a ten spot now and then.
President Bush made $14 million selling his share of the Rangers. $20 million has always been the high end of the estimated range of his assets. Whatever else you seem to be implying should be fascinating.

Do your garbage men wake up with the weight of the world on their shoulders every morning? Do they know, every time they step out in public that someone wants them dead? Does every decision in their day affect thousands, maybe millions, of people, perhaps for years, perhaps change the course of history? And they know they’ll bear the burden to their grave?
I’m all for showing respect and appreciation for everyone, but your disrespect for authority has clouded your thinking. If you even thought before posting.

Really?
I am not a garbageman, never wanted to be one.
I have no garbagemen friends nor aquaintances.
But I do know that garbagemen have one of the most hazardous jobs in America today, right up there with pilots and ironworkers.
I know that their work environment is by definition grossly unpleasant.
I know that the work they do is crucial to the immediate health and well being of hundreds of millions of the rest of us.
I shudder to contemplate the catastropic disease and squalor that would result from just a few weeks without their simple hard work.
