I got a solicitation call from the RNC last week and I think I finally got off of their roles as a "card carrying" member. I had donated small amounts in years past, but have forcefully informed them since 2008 that I don't support their candidates and platforms anymore. Anyway, they asked me during the recent call if I consider myself a Republican or a Democrat. I told them "neither."
So they pigeonholed me as an "independent." Does it sound like I'm off the hook?
Sorry... if you leave, they’ll have to kill you. You know too much.
Seriously though, and practically, if you want to have a serious influence in primary elections, you have to be one or the other.
Ah, stop paying dues and register as not a republican..... really pretty simple.
Yes it sounds like you are off the hook. I quit being a Republican a couple of years ago, not because I no longer believed in the platform, but because THEY no longer believed in their platform.
Start to think for yourself. You’ll be ostracized immediately.

I don’t know how it works where you are, but I went to the local election’s office when I moved and registered. I am an Independent.
Simply go down there and change your party designation.
So what candidates and platforms do you support? You realize the Tea Party candidates that win in primaries are running as Republicans and are funded and assisted by the Republican party right?
you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave...
My $0.02. I think being a republican is what you do, not who you are. If you are talking about the telemarking “hook”, I doubt you can ever stop that. It’s like stepping in gum. You can scrape most of it off, but you can never get it all. Don’t want a hook? Don’t have one.
Unless you're in a state with open primaries. But then you have to choose; the best candidate for your preferred party, or the weakest for the opposing party.
I never did know (or remember) how I got classified as a Republican to begin with - thought just my donation to Republican groups got me on their roles. I’ll give your advice a try.
Don’t give a penny to the GOP. Donate to indivdual candidates.
The problem is I'm still a republican, but the Republicans aren't.
It depends on what state you live in. PA is a closed primary state. Changing to an unaffiliated will exclude you from voting in the primaries. I always make a point to vote in primaries against any incumbent GOP’ers on principle. I have been lucky lately that there is usually a Constitutionalists challenger.
You can quit the Republican Party; it’s the same thing as voting for The MYTH in 2012 to do so, however.
The Utah GOP/LDS voted for amnesty for illegals in a Republican state. The GOP is just the other part of the Bilderberg Corp.
During the last election cycle, I sent the RNC play money, noting in the replay form that I was sending “Fake money for a fake Republican.”
The RNC and RSC are persistent in their calls & mailings. It would be nice if they were half as persistent in D.C. on our behalf. I’m still waiting for a junkyard dog rep that will eat Democrats.
In my state if you’re not registered in one of the 2 main parties, you can’t vote in the primaries.
It’s the only reason I’m technically registered as I am.
