Thank goodness we only have rattlesnakes here!
“Thank goodness we only have rattlesnakes here!”
Actually, the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake is larger and much more dangerous than all the rest in Florida! (Although the Coral Snake might be more deadly with neurotoxic venom - like a Cobra, but is small, relatively rare and has very short fangs.) Just received a Lakeland Ledger article from my sister about a Frostproof, FL man who got bit on the hand by a 6 ft, 11 in Diamondback on Feb 27th. He was picking up aluminum cans along the roadway and not paying attention. He was extremely lucky in that only one fang connected then broke off before he got a full load!
