A night on the job for two downtown gas station workers became violent when two men walked in, guns in hand. A wild shootout unfolded on camera, inside the very close quarters of the Lewis Street Market in Nashville. No one was shot, but you'll be amazed that it didn't end in tragedy.
On Wednesday, store owner Kamil Alakabi described what happened.
I was right here when I grabbed my gun. They stayed on the other side, and I shot them on this side, said Alakabi.
What Alakabi is talking about can be seen in the surveillance video captured from inside his store on Lewis Street on Tuesday night.
They came straight to me, and they don't say nothing. They just put the gun in my face. When they put the gun in my face, I tried to grab his gun, and they put me on the floor, and they punched me with their gun in my shoulder, said Alakabi.
He instantly fell to the floor and immediately tried to grab one mans gun. That's when, Alakabi said, he thinks the men were startled by another worker on the other side of the aisle.
When they saw my buddy back there, they run to him. And I grab my gun and keep shooting them. When I keep shooting them and they keep shooting me, they run away you know, Alakabi said.
As the two men ran out, bullets and smoke can be seen trailing them in the video.
I tried to protect myself, you know, said Alakabi.
Alakabi said he carries a gun because this is the third time in the past three years he's been robbed at gunpoint at his store.
The second time they come with a gun, one guy he come with a gun, then he put it in my face and the front of my register, and I grabbed his gun, too, said Alakabi of the 2009 robbery. I know this area is a bad area."
So that's why the man who served seven years in the Iraq Army usually stands outside each night keeping an eye on who is around.
But last night, I forgot. We were busy or something for some reason, said Alakabi.
He now hopes police find these robbers before they hurt someone else.
I hope they got them because this is bad, bad, bad people. I hope they got them. Maybe they go to another store, they kill somebody or something. That's bad people, you know, said Alakabi.
Both of the men who were trying to rob the store got away, and police said it did not appear that either was hit by the gunfire.
Anyone with information concerning this robbery is asked to contact Hermitage Precinct detectives at 862-6993 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
That must be SOME high-speed video camera!
And holding the gun up over the isles and just shooting without looking? Really?
Too bad the thugs escaped. This could have been a real heart warming story.
I laughed like crazy at that video.
The chick announcer says this clown spent years in the Iraq Army and is trained to use a weapon. If this is the way the Iraq Army trains their troops to use weapons it’s no wonder they needed American troops to fight insurgents.
A 10 year old knows better than to fire without having a target. His buddy is lucky to be alive.
If the thieves in his neighborhood see this Video they may walk in his store with a weapons just so they can laugh while he shoots up his own store.
This will not make a good training video ... but all’s well that ends well ...
Citizen...get to the range.
this is why we train muscle memory ???
Soldiers are often taught to keep up “suppressive fire” to keep the enemy from advancing or firing effectively. Most rounds that soldiers shoot do not hit anyone. We are talking about many thousands of rounds fired for every person hit.
It even seems that it “worked” in this case. The robbers left and he was not hit.
My coach would say “We train for muscle memory because frankly some of you do not have the brain power to THINK on the field!” LOL
It shows that he got his gun training in the iraqi army! LOL
hehehe...i just thought it tragic/comical that in try to rack the slide, he dropped the mag on the floor...he was aware enuff to pick it up though...
One to point out what not to do and why one should plan think ahead and practice.
Range time! Ready on the right. LOL
