About Barry’s world travels when a child -
He returned to Hawaii in August 1971, summer, to live with his g’parents and, page 58 of “Dreams”, spoke of the summer drawing to a close, and of him being restless to start at Punahou.
On page 58 he also said: “I had gone for several interviews with Punahou’s admissions officer THE PREVIOUS SUMMER”. That would have been the summer of 1970.
That 1970 date is confirmed on page 54 of “Dreams”: Barry had just been picked up by Gramps and Toot at the Honolulu airport in August 1971 and he was fretting to himself that he would be living with strangers. Then he recalled that when his mother had told him he would be returning to Hawaii, and that she would try to make it there for Christmas...”She reminded me of what a great time I’d had living with Gramps and Toot just the previous summer - the ice cream, the cartoons, the days at the beach.”
The “previous summer” was 1970. So his 1971 return to Hawaii was not his only trip away from Indonesia. He was not there non-stop between Oct. 1967 and Aug. 1971.
Considering that photo labeled ‘3rd grade 1969’ of Barry and Scott Inoue, we have to wonder just how long the “previous summer” might have actually been.
The photo of the two boys - it disputes Scott’s [and his mother’s?] memories, but it looks as though “Scott”... “1969” was written with a different pen than “Barry”...”3rd grade”. As if originally all is had was “Scott” at the left side of the photo and “1969” at the right side - that “Barry 3rd grade” was added later with a different pen. “Later” could have been the next day - or say even 40 years later, after the import of the photo was realized.
Not criticizing a little kid’s vague memories, or his mom’s. Just pondering...just sayin’.
Regardless of when names/dates were written - that photo is proof, along with Barry’s own words in “Dreams”, that he did indeed travel away from Indonesia before moving to Hawaii in 1971. Do you suppose he was in Hawaii with the g’parents for all or part of his third grade year as a test-run in consideration of the permanent move? At this point it surely can’t be ruled out.
certainly zero himself had no argument with the hand-written caption on the bottom of the image, he SIGNED the photograph for Scott. See signature on top right hand side.
I think you might be forgetting that 'Dreams' has no chronolgy, and the author clearly states that some characters are composites.
I think you are right the date of the photo may be off a year. I have personally done that after scanning and digitizing old photos that were stuck in a shoe box.
Then the question becomes - on what passport did BHOII/Barry Soetoro/Saebarkah Soetoro travel on when leaving and entering Indonesia?

So I have always recorded the last date or ‘re-entry’ to the US as this October 1971 date.
Now Maya was born in August of 1970. Did they send Obama/Barry/Saebarkah back to the US during that time?
In 1968 SAD/S took Obama/Saebarkah OFF her passport. Did he go onto another one? Did he need one as a minor?
If he had his own US Passport at this time it would be almost as good as a BC. But that has not shown up either.
