Plus, when they enter the road on a green they get green all the way across ~ not just half way. The cops give tickets in MD, VA and DC on that one when a car darts across before a pedestrian has cleared the road.
New York is different. They cross in the middle of the block as a matter of course and I know a New Yorker who once pulled a jaywalking ticket in downtown DC for the middle of the block trick. Which means this ~ even though the pedestrians around here are jaywalking, and can be ticketed for it, you as a motorist are simply not permitted to run them down.
We have the same laws in Washington State. That doesn’t prevent the occasional motorist who doesn’t see the arrogant jerk crossing against a red light.
