If Walmart sells items at a rear register, they need to have a better clue about this issue. Insisting on seeing a receipt as I leave the store pisses me the hell off. Just like TSA screening. Considered guilty without any probable cause.
I’m sorry that Walmart caters to a lot of losers who shoplift them blind, but they need better in-store monitoring if that is the case.
I guess this was due to it not being in a bag because I buy things at the back and walk out the store with no trouble. Surely, they could have put the receipt on the box. When I buy drinks at my grocery store, I ask for a sticker to be placed on the bottle.
The local Wal-mart is in a nice area. And has one of the lowest inventory theft rates in the area. They have intensive monitoring with several dedicated security people on the floor at any given time and lots of security cameras.
They still catch several shop lifters a day. I understand they usually prosecute at least one a day, and others they ban from all Wal-mart stores forever, and threaten them with trespassing charges if they return.
Their security cameras can track people a couple of blocks from the store property. And the local police tend to keep at least one vehicle in the area (They pay a lot of sales taxes.)
It's a reasonable policy given the amount of theft. I doubt that state law quoted by Rick really exists, but it's a stupid law if it does.
It a private business, if you don't like it, don't shop there.
It's like big government telling bars and restaurants that the can't have smoking or use this or that oil to cook food.
Walmart should be able to do what it wants.
Easy fix for the rear registers at Walmart.....affix a large sticker of some kind to the article bought. That way the person in front only has to glance at the item. Heck they affix a sticker to your return bag/item when you walk in the front door. I am surprised they haven’t already thought of this.
