I guess you have to meet the guy. (Or have met him before he became an icon.) Well, I spotted him at the time as a manipulator, though, of course, I didn’t predict his future career, or else I’d have attached myself to him, though it was long before he was somebody. But, as I said, a charmer her was, and how do you confront someone who makes promises he cannot and will not keep, and stay in the polite society?

In 1989, a friend of mine who’s a democrat’s democrat (her father ran for TX governor in the 80s) was over and said she’d just had dinner with BJ at home and pronouced him a
‘snake’.

I guess we were both 20 at the time and we finally had a common enemy.
