Hot shot: Meet Regis, 19-year-old big game huntress who's America's deadliest teen
Daily Mail ^ | 3rd March 2011 | Jeff Maysh

Posted on 03/03/2011 10:37:35 PM PST by george76

She's studying at a college in Florida, and like any typical American teenager she loves shopping and hanging out with her friends. But at weekends she is one of the deadliest shots in the brush.

Regis Giles, 19, is one of America's hottest hunters - and she's taking the big game world by storm.

She's killed buffalo, wild boar, deer and a bear in her hunting career, which began when she was aged just nine.

And she's already drawing parallels to Sarah Palin, America's most famous gun-toting wilderness-loving woman.

Miss Giles is a lifetime member of the NRA. She was hunting well before Mrs Palin took America by storm during the 2008 general election. But she is as staunch a promoter of American blood sport as the former Alaska governor is.

Diane Danielson of the NRA’s Women On Target programme explains that the ‘Palin effect’ has increased female membership 20 per cent, with the NRA teaching 10,000 new women a year to shoot, and making more girls want to take up hunting, like Regis.

‘Firearm manufacturers are gearing their products towards women. They’re scaling down stocks, and shortening trigger pull lengths for our shorter fingers,' Ms Danielson said.

I have friends who are anti-hunting,’ she said solemnly. ‘I don’t tend to argue with them, they’re just not well informed.

'Hunters like me actually help the wildlife. Taxes on our weapons and equipment go directly to state conservation programmes, and last year $294 million was raised by hunters.’

The meat from the giant bison Miss Giles is seen posing with is enough to feed a man for 18 months. She donated her kill to a local homeless shelter, where the meat fed the needy.

Laz wouldn’t hit that....

...because if he got within range, she’d blow his head off.

Yes, you are correct. Chilling. The fact that she “gives” the animal to a food shelter is simply her recognition that her crass behavior needs moderation.

Not, it’s just a convenient way to shoot something for sport but be able to brag about it in polite company.

Shotguns don’t have those types of sights.

That’s a double rifle, like one might traditionally take on a safari to Africa.

The British developed this design in the late 1800’s I believe. (Holland and Holland) They were intended for Dangerous Game in Africa. The idea of having 2 separate barrels loaded at the same time, lessened the chances of a misfire or a miss.

They also had a “both barrels” option which the shooter could resort to if the charge had gotten too close and immediate emergency measures were necessary.

Look under "Holland Holland Double Rifle". (Wikipedia) They are some of the most expensive rifles in History. Some custom versions cost $200,000. An original .600 Nitro built around the turn of the Century would probably be double that.

In that picture, it looks like she bagged herself a liberal pig that was at the public trough!

The guys who shot up the Antelope herd were caught, they were bragging in a bar. The State took care of that, and the spinoff damage to the family business eventually forced its sale.

The others? The Game and Fish people were notified, and may have been nabbed later, if only for another crime. Pretty sure they were selling the choice (nost marketable) cuts and in it for money, or trading them for something else. I figure they left easily better than 200 lbs of meat to rot which families I knew at the time would have boned out with a fillet knife and made into stew or soup or ground in a heartbeat, not to mention roasting the shoulder or the neck. Those were the days before the NAHC, and it wasfar easier to get a landowner to let you hunt their land gratis, if for no other reason than to mitigate crop damage. Of course, some venison sausage or backstrap from the deer you harvested made that relationship go even better, but then it was optional.

After the NAHC, everyone got the idea that their hunting rights were a marketable commodity and the chances of a 'good ol' boy' getting to hunt for free diminished considerably.

I’m glad they were caught and I hope the full force of the law came crashing down on them..... automobiles firearms/seized. That’s how things come out here...someone brags and the beans are spilled. When the locals know, the perps will be shunned and not able to hunt anywhere.

I guess y'all never heard of 'buck fever'. It often manifests itself after the animal is harvested, and not just (in some) as the jumping jitters before one takes the shot.

I know very few hunters who do not get some sort of thrill from a successful hunt. Frankly, it is the ones which feel nothing at all who spook me.

Maybe it was badly phrased and not the unabated bloodlust you guys seem to think it is.

Substantial amounts of meat are given to charity by hunters every year.

Very true. In fact, tens of millions of meals. Below is an excerpt from a 2002 National Review Online article quoting Ted Nugent...

"The truth is that the hunting community literally is responsible for having more deer, more turkey, more elk, more bison, more mountain lion, more bear, in America now than in over 150 years. Many of those species are higher populations than in recorded history.

And with that surplus every year during the national season of harvest my own organization, Ted Nugent and the United Sportsman of America, our camp for kids, safari club international, hunting organizations across this great land, have donated tens of millions — yes, tens of millions — of high-protein, pure-venison meals to the homeless shelters and to the food banks.

And we won an award from the Salvation Army because our organization, along with other hunting clubs, had donated so many quality meals. And these homeless people need protein and there’s no better, more delicious protein in the world than venison."

Me, too. It was obvious a couple of the animals had been shot up, but not immediately killed before the perps left the scene. Crap like that, especially when you know a bunch of people who would have been more than happy to use the meat, really ticks me off (my real opinion is not printable on this forum).

They just shot them up, and it is probably best the Law got them. The community voted with their money, and the family business suffered a lot as a result.

Makes me wonder what the he!! are these people thinking. In one night they can undo decades and generations of goodwill/deeds of ethical hunters/sportmen. All to satisfy their ego.

I’d hit it...after politely asking her permission.
