Windows media doesn’t play Mp4, download Real player or itunes and they will not only play them but you can convert to Mp3.

Download VLC instead. Plays everything with built-in codecs. BUT if you still want to stick with WMP, download CCCP or K-LITE codec pack, open and make sure you you turn the WMP as your default player so K LITE will recognize it quickly.

Simply, MP4 is a file format such as AVI which is a multi-container format. MP4 is also my favorite format: de-facto container for H264 hi-definition H264 file format which is also used in Blu ray.

(what do I know..I work in Hollywood)

You’re going to have to convert them to play them on the Windows Media Player. They’ll play with Quicktime. I convert them to wmv. with the YouTube downloader application.

Search for and download the VLC media player, and you’re good to go. Also plays videos that your Windows Media Player can’t play.

MP3 = Music

MP4 = Video

Media player can play MP4 files, all you need to do is down load the proper codecs.

go here: Media Player COdecs

Just download the free VLC player which is far superior to media player.

Actually, I am SURE WMP plays MP4. I was able to tweak my WMP 8 to play MP4 by just going to the TOOLS option in WMP. I have the MP4 version of INCEPTION in 720P resolution that I play on WMP 7. WMP 9 is a different matter though.

The easiest way to get Windows to play MP4 is to switch to Quicktime.

Yes, try it. You’ll like it. Quicktime sucks.
