NEW YORK Tennis star Serena Williams underwent "emergency treatment" Monday, days after doctors discovered a blood clot in her lungs, People magazine reported.
Spokeswoman Nicole Chabot told the magazine that Williams "underwent emergency treatment for a hematoma suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation."

Cancer.
Cancer can cause PE due to secretion of pro-coagulants.
That certainly fits the diagnosis & report.
FYI, Serena recently (couple of months ago) had a serious foot injury (a laceration I believe) that prevented her from playing in the Australian Open.
A clarification: the foot injury was last summer.
Cancer.

“Well spoken and nice”?? Guess you must have missed Serena’s filthy and hateful and lengthy outburst, (at a recent US Open women’s match I believe the venue was), directed at a lines person. She once was my favorite player but there is no excuse for that sort of thug behavior.
You're right, she pretty much went ghetto on the poor judge. I think that there is a feeling (I believe to be true) that the judges are not quite as "fair" to Serena and Venus as other female tennis players on the pro tour. The entire reason for the shot spot was because she really was robbed in the 2004 U.S. Open quarterfinals against Jennifer Capriati. That match was one terrible call after another at crucial moments. The US Open officials even apologized to her after and that's the main reason that electronic replay is now in place.
the Williams never got into the USTA junior program and stated flatly that he didn't want his girls acting like the spoiled brats he saw in some of those tournaments. So basically he was on his own with two girls from Compton.
The French Open was another one where the crowd got behind Henin and she cheated by holding up her hand then denying it. That got into Serena's head and the crowd helped to dismantle her.
I don't know either one, I've seen Serena play and she's a beast. Because of the Williams sister we will never have a soft doughy grand slam female champion. The women that win may be feminine but they won't be soft. they changed women's tennis, which says a lot for two chicks from da'hood.
She is almost unrecognizable in that pic - makes me wonder whether she’s spending her time off getting an extreme makeover, which would also make her more likely to get a clot.
I think it’s all hair & makeup. Look at the other photos of her at the link. Aside from hair & makeup, she pretty much looks the same.
As a note, I have factor II and V, and after a provoked blood clot, caused by accident, I was on thinner briefly. A doctor gave me a second opinion, after the first one told me I needed to be on warfarin for life. This doctor is at a large Philadelphia hospital, and told me there is no data to show I need thinner for life after my kind of clot.
What kind did you have?
I am not sure what type of clot that I had. I have been diagnosed with the milder form of Prothombin Mutation.
