The civil war was not fighting “over the slaves” anymore than the demonstrations in Wisconsin now are “for the children.”Saying the civil war wasn't over slavery but over states' rights (the right TO OWN SLAVES) is exactly the same as saying it's not about abortion, but "a woman's right to choose."
