For the Ziona family, every day feels like a family reunion.
The massive clan from Mizoram, India, is the world's largest family -- and they got together recently to pose for a picture that shows how they give new meaning to the term "Big Love."
The family is headed by patriarch Ziona, a Christian polygamist with 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law and more than 40 grandkids. That's 181 family members.
"Today I feel like God's special child," said, Ziona, 67. "He's given me so many people to look after. I consider myself a lucky man to be the husband of 39 women and head of the largest family."
The clan lives in a massive, purple-painted 100-room, four-story compound they call "Chhuanthar Run," or "The House of the New Generation."
The wives have to keep cooking fires going all day to feed their battalion. Each day, the clan goes through 220 pounds of rice, 132 pounds of potatoes, and 154 pounds of meat.
The younger wives all live in a large dormitory that is connected to Ziona's 600-square- foot private bedroom. The older wives, who are considered "out of use," stay in another area of the home on the first floor.
"We stay around him most of the time, as he is the most important person in the house," said Rinkimi, 35, who has been married to the clan leader for 11 years. "Serving him is like serving God. He's the most handsome person in this whole village. I feel blessed to have him as my husband."
Ziona runs his own Christian religious sect that believes they will soon be ruling the world with Christ.
Ziona -- whose name is local lingo for "Zionism" -- also leads some 400 other families

Geeze FRiend, lighten up.
FR SO needs a LIKE button!
It says the male members of the family hold jobs, while the women and girls do home-maintenance. The article implies that the family as a whole is a self-sufficient economic unit. Interesting, from a purely sociological standpoint.
Not really, Joe only had 37 he was married to, many of whom were still married to other alive men. This dude appears to be marrying single, widowed or otherwise unattached women in need of room and board.
Those “wives” don’t look too happy in that one picture, do they?
As long as the government only recognizes one legal marriage between a man and a woman I don’t care what consenting adults do on their own time. As long as those wives aren’t forced to stay and they aren’t doodling the kids, then whats the problem?
Come on now...God allows for much evil in this world because we have a choice to some degree and He does not make us as controlled creatures like animals are. That in no way means He approves of this. Just look at that big photo, I don’t think one of them are is smiling!
If he really cared for the soul of these women, then why did he not sponsor a home for wayward young ladies where they could live safely and with love? Why would he instead marry them and have all the sex he would ever want? Doesn’t sound so christian to me!
I’m....impressed! Heck I can’t keep one around......;}
Living in India I guess they would have to be self supportive. Thanks. I am on my iPad and couldn’t get the article to come fully up.
I don’t know what kind of “social support” payments India has, but I’d guess not much. It seems to resemble some African villages/family compounds, both economically and sexually. The old guy gets first go at the women, and sons or sons-in-law are additional economic producers.
If it’s against the law there, Christians are taught in scripture to abide by the laws set in place by the local authorities. - It wouldn’t be my cuppa tea; and I’m thankful to the Lord to have the luxury of deciding on my own personal cuppa tea.
Address what I actually said, instead of trying to twist what I said into something else.
I said that it is a Lesser evil than divorce or fornication, as those two things leave a child fatherless. Just as slavery is a Lesser evil than execution for nonviolent crime or genocide of enemies in war.
That is not a claim that God approves of either slavery or polygamy.
This guy lives in an alternate universe from the typical US Ghetto baby’s daddy of 15 by 15 different women, of which the kids don’t even know who their father is.
And willing to pay for it.
Most of’em look a helluva lot better than him! A Tyrone Power type stud he ain’t!
In QUANTITY he’s got the prize( and without viagra, I would guess!), maybe in quality too- considering the amount of plastic in Hefner’s harem!
He definitely has more GUTS than Hefner. This guy LIVES with all the wives and children!
Similarly polygamy is not God’s desire for man, but has been often permitted because due to the hardness of the heart of man it prevents divorce and fatherlessness. ...I twisted nothing. You made it sound like God preferred this to happen because those women were fatherless. Those women were not married for heaven sakes and if he wanted to be a father figure he could have helped them without marrying them. My point was valid...you did make it sound exactly like God permitted this! Yet a lot of evil happens in the world...that does not mean God approves...you made it sound like this was needed in some way...not!
You are the one that brought God into a selfish story to somehow make it sound more kosher and now you are trying to blame me for pointing that out! Why don’t you just admit that you are wrong here?
I answered a hypothetical question posed in Post 3
Its a toss up as to which deviance the left will try to mainstream next polygamy or pedophilia.
I made a comparison of the degree to which God condemns six wrong things.
1, Slavery.
2. Execution for nonviolent crime.
3. Genocide of the losing population in war.
4. Divorce.
5. Fornication.
6. Polygamy.
I submitted an observation that while all of those things are wrong, certain of those show more mercy than others and are less condemned in the bible. My best guess, answering which wrong thing listed in post three would be the next to be mainstreamed by the left was that Polygamy would be next, as society has already mainstreamed two other improper relationships (numbers 4. & 5.) which are more severely condemned than Polygamy.
I did not address pedophilia as I believe it to be as bad a sin as abortion, which has also already been mainstreamed.
You seem to be upset that I maintain that Fornication and Divorce are more strongly condemned in scripture than Polygamy.
Please list for me each place in Scripture where Divorce, Fornication, and Polygamy are specifically addressed.
With that list in mind, you and I can address which is more strongly condemned.
Is it your contention that no sin is more strongly to be avoided than any other sin?
My point with you is bringing God into this story and the word permitting...tends to draw a picture that it is not so bad. So what if it is a lesser sin than others...it is an awefull and poor example of a so called christian man getting his rocks off in huge amounts while hiding behind his do goodism! What a hypocrite. And you bringing God into it doesn’t help. Can you address my point that if he really loved thses women and not himself so darn much, he would have opened a home for women...not a home for as many screws as you want every night! Sorry, I couldn’t help that. i am a little tired of God getting misrepresented by people who think they are christian but really only have a bunch of head knowledge about Him.
My post, to which you refer is not referencing the story at the top of the thread.
My post addresses this question Its a toss up as to which deviance the left will try to mainstream next polygamy or pedophilia. Period When you attempt to take my post and apply it to the story at the top, you are taking me out of context.
For the record then do you disagree with my contention that Pedophilia is more wrong than Polygamy?
How long have you held this view?
Explain to me why YOU Think Pedophilia isn't worse than polygamy.
I have every right to assume that is your position since I arrived at it by taking your post out of context - just as you have done to me since you entered into this debate.
