A group of hacktivists acting under the banner, "Anonymous," has warned a church with a controversial history that unspoken retribution will follow it continues its practice of inflammatory protests.
In an open letter to the Westboro Baptist Church, Anonymous has put the anti-gay, fundamentalist church on notice that "the damage incurred will be irreversible," and that "neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover."
The Westboro Baptist Church is led by Rev. Fred Phelps. It has drawn particular attention for carrying out anti-gay protests at funerals of military servicemen with signs celebrating the deaths of the soldiers with signs like "God Hates the USA" or "Thank God for 9/11." The group operates a website with the URL godhatesfags.com.
I don’t have a dog in this fight but I’m popping my popcorn.
Don't sick Ernie on them.....anything but that!
That weren't no hacker.
That was God.
Can we craft a letter on behalf of WBC and tell Anonymous they dont have the balls to try and DNS or hack the websites and even if they did, “our” AOL spam blocker will keep them out? ;o)
Er, why don’t we just have some Marines beat them up next time they protest at a military funeral? I’m sure the police could arrange to have other business at the time.
I hate what the westboro’s are doing. But, these anonymous hackers aren’t any better. If they are so brave why don’t they do it in their faces. I don’t like the anonymous, sounds like a bunch of chickens to me.
If it is just some kids playing the FBI will sadly track them down and arrest them for terrorist threats.
I think Anon (originating from the board 4chan) are a mix of various people with various degrees of competence. Some will be excellent hackers, and some will be kids who don’t have a clue what they’re doing and will get caught....
the anti-gay, fundamentalist churchAnti-gay? Really?
How do we know they are "anti-gay"? Because they say they are?
I prefer to judge what they do, not what they say. What funerals do they harass? Funerals of gays who died of AIDS? Nope.
They harass the families of fallen US military.
They aren't anti-gay.
They are anti-American.
Someone pointed out:
*When did the Anon note go up? The article is from Saturday afternoon. If Phelps & Co. had that response ready to go immediately on their website and put it up the same day... they’re totally faking it.*
They are the smoking gun.
I actually suspect that something like that is just what they want.
Those Westboro monsters - and they are monsters - would take a bruising, then sue for millions. It's their payday.
While I certainly don't condone any illegal actions - except perhaps against monsters - a sophisticated computer attack against Westboro would fit right in with the concept of righteous street justice.
Hack their bank accounts, transfer their money to the LBGT Alliance. Let them fight the gays to get it back.
Or els? Oh, no, anything but els, please! Doun drow me in dat dar els patch!!!
“Don’t sick Ernie on them.....anything but that!”
Ernie was once great. I would consider him now to be a hacktivist.
This "church" has nothing to do with Christianity. They are a family of lawyers looking for lawsuits.
Because the Phelps family pukes are lawyers and they know how to "game" the system. Anyone that comes after them in the open loses.
