Jack finished 2nd 19 times in Majors. So his 1-2 finishes put him at 37
Disagree with HT’s easy-to-say line that competition is better now. Like Jim Thorpe and Jim Brown being the best RBs of all time, there are those who say (”argue”) that today’s backs are better because of better defenses, better this or that. Besides, Tiger is imploding. His search for low hanging fruit, i.e. # of Majors wins, is pathetic.
In any event, Tiger will never reach the character quotient Jack had and which Earle wished for his son to have.
Out of 163 starts as compared to Woods' 53 starts - over three times as many........But we're talking about wins, not runners up..........nobody gives a rip about the second, third, fourth or fifth place golfers because in the grand scheme of things, they're just the losers.
There are a lot of younger players now who have no fear of him, hit it farther than him and have good short games/putting.
The future was really at the PGA last year which was won by very long Dustin Johnson. The problem is he grounded his club is supposed bunker that was filled with fans.
It came down to even longer Bubba Watson versus very precise Martin Kaymer who can hit it far. They were being chased by 21 year old Rory McIlroy who is longer than Tiger.
Throw in 17 year old Matteo Mannesero who has already won a pro event and who made the cut at The British Open in 2009 (Tiger didn’t) at 16 and then at The Masters at 16.
Tiger has a bum knee too. I could almost forgive him globally humiliating his wife and being a Charley Sheen/Vick/Mike Tyson of golf but he keeps swearing, throwing clubs and acts like an arse.
In my book, Jack is probably the best and if Hogan had not been in a head on collision with a Greyhound bus, he would have been the best. Hogan with a destroyed body came back and won tourneys. Probably one of the greatest come backs in history.
I think Palmer still cuts Tiger some slack but Jack appears to avoid him now.
