To me, Chester is the character that did not change much from these early episodes. Matt comes off as more, I don’ know - emphatic than he was in later ones. Doc seems like a comic figure.

All in all, I have always thought Gunsmoke had some of the best writing of any of the westerns.

As well as I could ask for on a Sunday evening, and I hope yours is, as well. Just finished applewood smoking three apricot-glazed Cornish game hens on the grill for dinner, and they were delicious. Our two Dachshunds and the grandson were waiting on those for two hours, and where the grandson is concerned, his Paw Paw can do no wrong. Wait'll he gets a little older and figures out I just have a good PR department in his grandmother. LOL!

In one episode, Chester made some sort of bad mistake and was going to quit. Matt talked him out of it. Chester said, “What use am I?”

Matt said, “You are the only person in Dodge I can trust.”

Happy Valentine’s Day, Vision!

They messed up a little while trying to plug the radiothon and re-played a segment of Dragnet, and it put them back on time (you may have heard it—they caught it). But, they ended up ditching Our Miss Brooks for time.

Same to you. I did notice something was up but didn’t know what it was.

Husband Keith said I should tell you what I did.

He pulled up a television episode of Dragnet on the computer last week, and we watched it. It was an episode that had Joe going to Frank’s house while Frank’s wife was out of town.

Before the crime of the show happened, Frank had a couple of guys over to play cards, and Frank made a pumpernickel, cream cheese, peanut butter and crushed garlic sandwich to share with the guys. Of course, they wanted nothing to do with that sandwich.

The next day, I went to the store and bought the bread and recreated Frank’s recipe. It was good! And now I will make pumpernickel bread a standard in our house! :-)
