I don’t agree that all animals are to be eaten.
whales, domesticated dogs and cats are on my short list.
I guess it’s their intelligence, which is slightly higher than some of the comments on this thread.

12000 years ago "dogs" (not wolves or foxes) were used as clan totems ~ along with all the other GAME ANIMALS ~ you have to presume that humans guided the survivability of captive dogs to breed up a suitible companion that leaps into your arms for slaughter on command.

Dogs are, as far as I can tell, the only one of our livestock animals who assist us in that process.
