The second covers the period between then, and the beginning of the Fellowship: The Necromancer of Dol Goldur, the return of the Nine to Minas Morgul, etc.

What will this be based on? Did Tolkien ever write in detail about this period - somewhere in the "Lost Tales" fragments his son Christopher published?

They have the rights to material in The Hobbit and in TLOTR trilogy, including the appendices, Material from the Silmarillion and the other Tolkien stories is off limits, and would have them in court in hours.
