From the abstract linked about comment# 20:
"To study the molecular mechanisms involved in the induction and repression of intestinal inflammation, the phosphoglycerol transferase gene that plays a key role in lipoteichoic acid (LTA) biosynthesis in Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM (NCK56) was deleted."
Hennie Pennie, ceatures with deleted genes are called knockout creatures. They could be bacteria, mice, etc. They know how to use specific enzymes to remove the genes, IIRC. My guess is that lipoteichoic acid is involved in the cell signaling pathway that promotes this inflammation, and it's absense turns it off, IMHO.
Hennie Pennie, I think you should reconsider. It was just an unfortunate choice of words that caused a misunderstanding, IMHO.
Done.
Thank you for your assistance with some decent search terms and precise phrases so that I can research this further and also set up some dynomite Google News Alerts.
‘A poo poo milkshake? OMG!’
Then you will be glad to hear that the last chance treatment for c. difficile, when all else fails, is a variant on that, but more voluminous and without the milkshake. Supplied by other family members. Swear to God!
Pull my finger. Uh, I mean, thanks hennie pennie. ;’)
yo bump!
I’m eyeballing my dad, if it comes to that. He’s regular, almost never on antibiotics, and the healthiest in the family. (Yes, I’ve thought that far out, in case everything else fails!)
Fortunately I didn’t need it (Vancomycin did the $$$$ job). Also I have no relatives in a thousand miles.
In the middle of trying to figure out if Vanco didn’t quite finish the job or if I am left with some different post-C-Diff colitis problem. (I had colitis up and down the colon when I was admitted in December.) The sample is in the lab and going for a colonoscopy, tomorrow. (I am not as sick as I was last year, at least!)
Wiki says ‘fecal transplantation’ has a 90% success rate.
It took me over two years to get it under control.
