When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was sure I didn’t want chemotherapy and began googling to validate my position.

Well...It generally changed my mind, but moving on to assess which type of chemo would be best for me, led me to several erroneous conclusions.
Turns out I was all set on a course that would likely have killed me (monoclonal antibodies), as it contains mouse cells and my allergic reaction would have had dire results.
The doc recommended low-dose cisplatin and that worked GREAT!
There are no text book answers for cancer and you’d better start by listening to the doc.
Yes, it’s good to be informed, but don’t think you’re going to replace 10-12 years of focused education w google!

You are starting from the wrong point. Once you knew you had cancer, then listening to specialists in the field with years of experience makes perfect sense. But what if you had a bunch of symptoms, but didn't know what was causing them? What if you had pain in your kidneys (as a guy) and your doctor kept telling you it was just a kidney or bladder infection, and proscribing antibiotics, right up until the day you went to a second doctor who diagnosed your kidney cancer that had already metastasized? THAT is where the internet comes in handy - you research "men kidney pain" and find out that kidney infections in men are rare, persistent kidney pain due to infection in men post-anti-biotics is almost impossible, and then a light bulb goes off and you say "Hmmm, I might want to see a different doctor for another opinion."

By the way, the above example is a true story. It happened to a guy I worked with several years ago. He left a wife and brand new baby girl behind.
