The wheels on the school bus go 'round and 'round, but eventually students are supposed to get off.
Not so for one South Florida boy, who was trapped on his school bus the entire day after the bus driver forgot to check and see if all of the students got off for school. Dylan Gottshall was found Monday on his school bus around 1 p.m., hours after he was supposed to get off and go to class at Parkway Elementary School in Port St. Lucie, TCPalm.com reports. The 7-year-old first grader was picked up at his bus stop around 7:30 a.m., but fell asleep on the bus by the time it arrived at school. He didn't wake up as all the other kids got off the bus and so the bus driver drove the bus back to the bus depot.
And so Dylan was trapped on the bus for hours with no way to get off, his father said.
"I was in shock and I was very angry that my child was left on a bus," Sam Gottshall said. "We all know what happens to kids who get locked in vehicles on hot days and everything and I was thankful it wasn't a hot day." School district officials said they were checking into the incident to see how a student could be stuck on a bus the entire day without anyone noticing.

One child was missing. So, was the special needs preschooler left at school? Or on the bus which is on it's way somewhere else? Or has this kid gotten loose inside the building or been snatched by a pervert?
Luckily for all involved the kid was on the bus. And instead of being very upset about what could have happened because of their idiotic carelessness, the teachers were quite ticked off that they were probably facing a lecture when they got back.

I’m 49 and school started in August when I attended school in Memphis and Mississippi. School usually ended BEFORE June.
There is no need for another paid person just to count kids. School bus driver can do that or find a new job. It ain’t hard to walk to the back of the bus and see if any kids are still on board.
Government is NOT the solution.

Are you a teacher’s union member, cause you are starting to sound like a hysterical ass?
The bus driver failed but we aren’t talking about an infant, the kid could have gotten off the business through the windows or the emergency exit, and yes a 7 year old can work it.

I teach. I am required to know where all my students are at any time, and inquire about extended absences.
It boggles me that they would take kids out anywheres and not have them sound off or count off.
Heck, I used to be a patrol leader, and we did that every single time we went anywhere. All I had to say was ‘Sound off!’ and everyone would count. If for whatever reason that number did not end where it should, we stopped counted again, and then went back to find the missing person.
I just don’t understand how someone driving a bus could leave a kid behind. Check the bus before you drive back. Go through all the rows. Greyhound bus drivers are trained to do this, and they will not leave until they have the correct count.
If DUPONT ran the schools children wouldn't be left on the bus....and....They would probably learn to read, too.
There are plenty of reasons to have another adult on the bus. For example: bus caused crushing and dragging deaths when exiting and entering the bus and crossing the road, child on child sexual and physical abuse, and seeing that children are safely secured in seat belts. And...In the case of a serious accident being another person on the scene to help the children escape the bus.
Signing off ( Yes, having **signatures**, just like on a scuba diving boat) would be one of the duties of two person team.
By the way...Does your district have bus safety drills ( especially for exiting the bus)? Our district does not.

Good then you VOLUNTEER to do it or YOU pay for it. The rest of us don’t want more union hacks or the bill to pay for them. Jesus Christ, no wonder we can NEVER get reduced budget. Do you not know we are broke and cannot afford this crap?

if DuPont owned the schools the kids would be pumped full of leftwing indoctrination.
Hopefully he will be fired; it should be common sense for an adult to CHECK for any sleeping (or hiding) students before parking the bus and walking away.
Why are you making sarcastic remarks about a frightened child?
Are you not more concerned about the ADULT RESPONSIBLE for him who failed to CHECK the bus?
I take it you didn’t read the article, else you would have known that the kid fell asleep on the bus.
The adult is culpable here, not the young kid.
