The man is foolish.

Take a walk sometime outside our nice neighborhood, and see what is lurking in the shadows.

There is a reason most states now have CCW.

I think the writer has a fundamental problem. The Bill of Rights doesn't grant anyone any rights. Those rights exist, in spite of any government or legislation which encumbers those who exercise them.

The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to keep the government's paws off of our rights, by stating them, and guaranteeing their sacrosanct nature.

Unfortunately, those guarantees haven't been worth much, as the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, supposed to be uninfringed, has now over 20,000 infringements imposed by government at various levels.

Repealing the amendment won't make a heck of a lot of difference, and I for one will continue to exercise the right which will continue to exist. Infringements might become more onerous, but if that is the case, it will be high time to remind our servants that the just powers of Government stem from the consent of the governed. I, for one, will withdraw my consent from any government which seeks to disarm me, and I will not be alone.

Changing the 2nd amendment won’t stop people like him - but it will stop US from protecting ourselves FROM people like him.

Permit me to disagree. The Second Amendment didn't grant the right to keep and bear arms, such rights are unalienable, beyond the power of men to change. The Second Amendment exists to declare that the Right should be free of governmental encumbrance. When the government seeks to remove it, keep in mind that governments are instituted among men to preserve their rights, and those governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.

Attempts to remove the Amendment serve as the alarm bell that those who are our servants would have us forget that, and that is time to revoke our consent, by whatever means necessary, for those persons to govern.

With or without the Amendment, the Right exists. It only remains for us to exercise it.

This fellow clearly (deliberately?) overlooks the most important aspect of the 2A, the ability to defend against tyranny, foreign or DOMESTIC.

What a PUTZ.

[These are the people who will betray you and your family.]

The day TSHTF these are the people who will waste your supplies, compromise your position, and want to borrow your guns only to shoot you in the back. We must shoot them FIRST.

At the time of its writing and through the early 1900s, The United States was a nation of largely isolated communities that depended on their own initiative for mutual security. That time is clearly passed...

The issue still is which is likely to be in hand (especially if the hand can be in a pocket);answering the door whilst holding a shotgun might make one's friends and neighbors call the police.

It seems best to have a "life preserver"(nod to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)ready without calling attention to oneself.

For this reason I don't regale co-workers with tales of my shooting prowess or firearms "collection" lest they become concerned since mere discussion of firearms is deemed an indicator of someone likely to commit workplace violence.

A fellow had his truck impounded by police following discovery of a visible long gun in it while parked locked in the company lot.Whole thing instigated by false claim of family member he was suicidal .Half a dozen cops in several cars swarmed around locked truck as it were a major crime scene. Almost lost his job ,but due to "no gun" signs location on INNER fence of property he was warned ,as was everyone ,that going forward no weapons allowed on any part of company property, not just the secured ares inside the fence..Violation will result in job termination for first offense. This took place in Ohio.Of course this is how anti-gunners effectively stop legal carry because if you can't have a firearm in your vehicle wherever it may have to be parked then you can't have it with you at all.I heard that Indiana has new law that prohibits parking lot owners from taking action based solely on firearm locked in a vehicle.Best if firearm not visible to passerby;the back window gunrack has become a rarity today, but I remember they were common here 30 years ago.

My answer, succinct, concise, and to the point.

You want Civil War Part II, go ahead and try it.

Make guns illegal and only the law abiding will obey and disarm themselves.

To take guns away from all the rest of those who would do evil would mean to violate many more individual rights than just the 2nd Amendment. (confiscation of private property, illegal search and seizure, and so on).

So if guns are not going away, and criminals are not going away, then the only logical conclusion is that the people need to be armed as much as practical.

Either that or we will have to live the life of constant airport quality TSA body scans and groping “for our own good”. (reminds me of the communist phrase justifying atrocity; “for the people”)

Some say the Tuscon shooter's magazine was both his fault and ours- for not limiting it to ten rounds. What gets me is the notion that people gathered anywhere ought not include several 'armed' citizens in a crowd of say, 100 people.

Had this been the case, Jared the Skull Worshiper might have been limited to six or seven shots before a responding 'permit holder' might have responded.

The Left's insistence that limits be placed on an individual's 'things' reflects their inability to control their own 'impulses'.

Normal people don't require 'bans' on things. But the Left does, I wonder why? Guilt makes people do funny things. The urge to touch children in a perverted way is equal to owning a 20 round magazine in these people's minds. Ok, maybe. I guess blasting 20 rounds into a crowd and molesting a child are equivalent- to them.

My problem with this logic is that as deterrents go, a gun in the hands of a citizen at a rally may act to reduce the number of psycho outbursts resulting in death as well as reducing the number of pervs who might try to take advantage of a child when Daddy might be packing.

As a society we haven't even begun to realize the benefits of the second amendment since we refuse to implement it ("shall not be infringed"). We have realized it's detriment from lack of utilization: crime un-equaled, out-of-control government, etc.

America is exceptional. Imagine how exceptional it could be if the 2A were in full effect? Crime, what crime? Prison overcrowding, what prison overcrowding?

And let us not forget, “I carry a gun because a Cop is too heavy”.

You dial 911 to let the Coroner know where to pickup the body.

“...only the law abiding will obey and disarm themselves...”

Then you can count me in the “Formerly Law Abiding” category.

I will not disarm. Ever.
