My son is graduating from The Citadel this coming May.
I was thinking about giving him a Mossberg 500 as a graduation present.
Thoughts ? Other recommendations ? Comments ?
Thank you.

If you have not already, consider getting him a Lifetime Membership in the Alumni Association (formerly Association of Citadel Men), trust me he will appreciate it. He will get a nice plaque on Graduation day, and lifetime quarterly color Alumni News update.

Is the Mossie choice due to budget considerations?

I own a Moss 500 Tac.
I love it.

PRO, and I own a Remington...
If you have the bucks get him a Benelli. If not, go American, Mossberg or Remington.
You can't go wrong with any of them.

Mossie’s a good weapon. Don’t put a grip stock on it.

The interchangeable barrels are a nice feature. There’s even a black powder configuration.

Good gun, I have a Mossberg 835 myself. But I think the 930, which is more expensive, has more features on it. I don’t think the 500 will lead you wrong though

For a budget shotgun it’s pretty darn nice.
I’ve had one for 5 years and love it.

Safety placement is wrong for a pistol grip.
For that, get a Remington 870 or a model with the safety on the trigger guard.

I’ll have to look more closely at the mossberg line, thanks.
