They both imagine that they are brilliant designers and in fact have studied design.
The problem comes when all the sycophants around them also pretend that they’re brilliant. It’s actually a disservice.

In any professional design capacity it's wise to develop a thick skin, surround yourself with the equivalent of Simon Cowell and listen to them. A brutally honest assessment from a very knowledgeable critic is worth it's weight in gold if you're grown up enough to take it in stride and work with it.
