As a southerner, all I have to say is THE SOUTH IS GONNA RISE AGAIN. I was always taught, by my relatives, the War Between the States boiled down to states rights. I guess the Washington Post wants to makes southerners out to be liars, huh?

Uh, no, I think the writer wants to make all Southerners out to be racists.

Ma’am, take it from an ex-secessionist (and current Southern Nationalist), it’s not going to happen again. Another secession movement would require a separation between millions of people and their sports on television. I don’t see that happening.

Also, true secession would be nothing more than a glorified divorce, and only lawyers profit from divorce. The next War Between the States would be fought in courtrooms.

All that being said, to find out why the antebellum South sought separation, one only has to read what they wrote. They were quite clear.

Living in the North and having relatives in the South, I’d say the South has risen again and won.

The South is gonna rise again. It has in spirit with the Tea Party. It is an independent spirit that is spread throughout our nation and it scares the commie loving, big government left to death.

We know that the southern states seceded due to slavery due to slavery. We know that to be fact as that is what those states told us in their Declarations of Secession.

It is all right there in that documentation for the entire world to read.

And if it were about states’ rights, they would have mentioned states’ rights in those declarations, but instead they only mention slavery.

The facts are the facts and no matter how hard the Confederate Apologists try, they cannot erase the facts of the reason the south left the Union.

I had two great grandfathers (one from Pop’s side and one from Mom's) who fought the Yankee invaders and both families knew and handed down the fact that they fought for Tennessee and South Carolina respectively—in other words for their homes and nothing else—with evil war criminals like Sherman and Sheridan raping, looting, murdering and burning their way across the South it turns out they were right about WHY they fought.
Slavery was a non-issue to the vast majority of those Southerners who actually fought the war.THEIR views are the only ones that actually matter and their heroism and exceptional ability to last as long as they did against overwhelming numbers and material represents the greatest military prowess since the 300 Spartans.
We proud descendants of Confederate heroes let liberal Yankee academics and politically motivated revisionists play with the superfluous nuances over the origons of the war—The WAR itself is all that counted and those who fought it.
