That’s so unlike Verizon, who will cripple features on phones just so they all work the same, and make it more difficult to backup contacts, transfer sound or photo files, without using Verizon software and network.

I'd bet the farm the Verizon iPhone will do all that through iTunes. You also won't see the Verizon logo on the outside of the phone. Apple doesn't play around on that, and widespread rumor (of which I'm somewhat dubious) is that's why VZN wasn't in the running for the iPhone four years ago (the far bigger factor is that going with a GSM carrier let them have one hardware platform worldwide).
