I find real monsters like Voss or the Psycho lovers in Dark Rivers to be MUCH more scary than say Pennywise or some of King’s other baddies.

Have you read Firestarter? There isn't much that's scarier than than an out-of-control government, IMO.

If it were me, I’d start off with “Watchers.”

I started with Stephen King books but quickly switched to Dean Koontz. I've enjoyed every Koontz book I've ever read. Good story lines, suspenseful, and Koontz does much better than King on character development. Also, while scary, Koontz usually ends with the reader feeling good and with hope, rather than the dark and hopeless world of King.

I'd have to say a couple of my favorites are the two based on the main character, Christopher Knight (Night?). One of them is “Seize the Night”, I can't remember the name of the other...been a few years since I read them. Having said that, they are probably not the best books to get started with for Dean Koontz, but still a couple of my favorites.

One of the best books I've ever read that sticks a thumb in the eyes of liberals and even better the Church of Global Warming fanatics is called:

Koontz has quite the reputation...he would be published.

Unknown author would be turned down.

My introduction to Koontz was at work..

We pass books around regularly.

After I read my first one, I headed to a used book store and bought about 20 or more of them.

For weeks I was in sci-fi nirvana.

Now I buy them in hard back because I can’t wait for it to come out in paper.

I’m having a hard time reading more than a chapter or two of this book at one sitting. It’s almost too intense to try to read more at a time. Is this happening to you, too? I usually devour his books, get nothing done, until I’m finished. But this one.......

A little slower going. I thought it was me.

The Watchers was my first Koontz book. Loved it. I just wish they didn't do such a horrible job on the movie version. The movie was awful.

“I haven’t finished the book yet, but I think he is setting up for the hero to be a dog!!!!”

You can tell he loves dogs. They have been in several books, including my first Koontz book “The Watchers”.

I was disappointed the dog didn’t have a bigger role in the book. Dang. You all had me interested.
