Kingston gun shop hosts bobblehead shooting day for Kiffin's anniversary(Tn)

When former Vols head football coach Lane Kiffin bolted from Tennessee 365 days ago, the reaction was swift, and at times ugly.

Kiffin may be gone, but he is not forgotten.

On Saturday, Frontier Firearms in Kingston is giving Tennessee fans the opportunity to take aim at the plastic likenesses of Lane, and his father, former Vols defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

The event is titled, "Shoot Coach Lane's Bobble-Head Day."

"That's what sports is about. They have teams, villains, teams they don't like, coaches they hate. I think Kiffin will go down, in Tennessee fans book, as one of those people," said Brant Williams, owner of Frontier Firearms.

"The idea is to finally have closure to Lane's leaving. It is time to let it go. A good way to come out and express frustrations and get behind the new coach and the team as they move forward next year," Williams adds.

The people at Frontier Firearms say they understand some people disagree with their methods, especially only a few days after the tragedy in Arizona.

They say the opportunity to help a local charity outweighs all of those concerns. The proceeds will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.

A couple of ranges that I am familiar with have a "silhouette-OK, identifiable human likeness-NOT OK" policy regarding targets used at their facilities. I believe that is reasonable.

I applaud Frontiers' charitable efforts, but think they could find another way to achieve their goal. A raffle, or a shooting match with nice prizes, could accomplish the same thing.

Just my 2 cents worth.

This is poor timing. If they want to go ahead with this event, they ought to wait 6 months or so.

yeah the large outdoor range my club leases has the rule...except there is no personnel running the range...we are each our own range officers and people bring whatever safe targets, they like to shoot. the president will check the front gate video if someone:

destroys target stands
leaves glass shards (shooting glass is a no no)
leaves a ton of garbage
and of course if a round gets away and causes a ‘problem’ out of the range and the cops get involved

we are suppose to police the garbage ourselves and most do. you can find all sort of targets sticking out of the garbage pails and dumpsters....including osama bin laden targets...no one seems to get too bent out of shape about OBL targets...if somehow a GW Bush target was found in the trash or on a target stand(kind of doubtful for this club), then the club officers would have a fit...so that is why there is a ‘NO Picture Target’ rule...it covers a multitude of sins.

"I believe that is reasonable."

How is that reasonable?

Except when the silhouette target is *black*, of course... so now many are printed in dark blue. I wonder if the members of the Blue Man Group feel threatened?

You asked, "How is that reasonable?"

Let me put it this way. If I were at the range, and happened to glance over at the next lane and saw someone punching .357 holes in an 11x14 picture of my wife, I would be upset, and would voice my objection quite strongly.

I believe it is reasonable of my range to prohibit the possibility of such an occurrence.

Even though I would not be upset to see a bin Laden target, I wouldn't consider asking for selective enforcement of their rule. In my mind, I can visualize the silhouette being whatever I want it to be. That's good enough for me.

Read the post again. That’s not a comment on the bobble-heads. It’s a comment on the “no recognizable pictures” targets policy.

UPDATE! Looks like they re-thought this, and came up with a better way to go.
