Why did the sheriff implicate the Tea Parties? Lawsuits!!! (vanity)

It's called "lawsuits".

If it was determined that local law enforcements let this guy slide, if they failed to stop this whack job, they're in deep doo-doo. The settlement payouts would be immense.

If I was the local sheriff and government, I would find a scapegoat (FOX, talk radio, Palin, Tea Parties) and fast.

How about a class action libel lawsuit against him by all Tea Party members.

Once again, the Left thinks We The People are morons and can’t investigate the truth and expose and implicate the liars.

Incorrect. Look into the public-duty doctrine. Absent a special relationship or actually creating the danger, there is no duty to protect anyone from crime.

I need some more confirmation, but it appears to me like the sheriff downplayed multiple telephone threats against multiple people, over a moderate period of time. All the time telling the targets (oops, sorry to use that word) that the kid was completely handled via his meds.

Correct. This guy has an agenda. Plain and simple. No lawsuit for failure to protect would succeed.

Wrong. SCOTUS ruled back in the 80s, and reconfirmed in the 2005 Gonzales case that police have no obligation to pursue any particular crime, or protect any person from harm.

Did the sheriff know about the boy’s behaviors and gloss over them and let it slide because the boy’s mother was a big Democrat in a government job in the county? - If so, I guess he did have to blame anybody else, preferably Conservative, and FAST. - I hope Sarah Palin and Todd do sue the media outlets for trying to pin the actions of a crazed lefty on her.

in “lawsuit politics,” SCOTUS and the law only go so far. the public relations mess in the discovery phase in the airwaves and net would be humiliating. the optics would be embarrassing. the state will settle.

in “lawsuit politics”, truth and law have little meaning. better to settle and let it go away.

so, they’ll need scapegoats to deflect blame.

I just called the pima county sheriff’s office, put in touch with internal affairs. He said he had no knowledge of loughhner’s death threats. I told him the sheriff offended me. he asked how. i said to blame us for his actions, that I was conservative and had never hurt anyone, that the sheriff has probably offended 80% of Arizonians.
I hope others will call. They have a hot line set up, she didn’t tell me the number though.

Good luck. If the Tea Party is classified as a New York Times party, forget it. Additionally, there would be many other standing issues that would make this diffcult to reach a jury.
