The Declaration of Independence was drafted by a committee of the Continental Congress. Serving on that committee were Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman.
But Jefferson later said that the document as written merely restated the consensus views of the Congress. Although nobody else had a way with words like Tom did.
