Television host and actor Gary Collins has been arrested for leaving a restaurant in Biloxi, Mississippi without paying his bill, police said on Wednesday.
Collins, 72, a former host of the Miss America beauty pageant, was charged with defrauding an innkeeper, said Rodney McGilvary, assistant chief of the Biloxi Police Department. He said Collins walked out on a $59.35 restaurant tab on Tuesday.
Restaurant employees followed him out of the restaurant into the parking lot, but he refused to stop, police said.
Collins had been drinking alcohol, McGilvary said, and was later arrested at his home but was not breath tested because he was not driving a vehicle at the time. Collins later posted bond of $5,000.
"He told me they were taking too long to bring his steak and he did not eat his steak. He said he was afraid he would be too drunk to drive by the time they brought it so he decided to leave," detective Tim McKaig said.
Collins starred in the 1972 TV series The Sixth Sense and was a guest star on may shows such as Perry Mason. In the 1980s, he hosted talk show Hour Magazine, The Home Show, and the Miss America Pageant for several years.
Maybe he is a Yankee and he thought he could stiff the locals on his dinner bills.
I guess that idea did not work out so well.
Perhaps it’s the home of his wife, Mary Ann Mobley (former Miss America.)
Southerners can count?
What’s the big deal? Here in Pittsburgh, it’s a known fact that Ben Roethlisberger does this all the time but yet never gets arrested. Imagine that.
I’m being sarcastic of course. People should always be held accountable for dishonesty
I can't believe they actually mentioned that series. I thought I was the only person on earth who remembered it. As a matter of fact, sometimes I wonder if it was just a product of my imagination.
It amazes me what the celebrity athlete class is allowed to get away with and even worshpped for. May the “cult of ball” die one day.
He should run for office as a democrat, then he wouldn't have worry about such slandering of his reputation by such trivial wrongdoing.
Go all the way and drive a GM sedan (since no more Olds)over a bridge with a younger woman and allow her to drown. Put on a neck brace for sympahty and all transgressions will be forgiven.
$60 bucks for a steak???? Not in Boloxi!,, Ah,, maybe $30,, the rest was booze. He walked out on the bar tab, bad decision, should have left a few $20’s.

Most of them can count.
It’s just that some of them are no ‘count.
Wasn’t he just arrested for drunk driving (there in Mississippi) as well, not too long ago? Seems to be a real mess. Always liked his stunningly-pretty wife.
Collins had two short-lived series in the 60s, the tv-version of “Wackiest Ship in the Army,” supporting Jack Warden, followed quickly by “The Iron Horse,” supporting Dale Robertson.
He accompanies her (his wife) to the Miss Mississippi Pagent held up here every July. He always looks drunk.
Wow..he didn’t age well. Used to be attractive when he was young.
What a shame.
He used to seem like a real stand up kind of guy.
