Maybe he ought to try a solid-state drive. But they're expensive. I bought a hybrid drive from OWC. It's part solid-state and part mechanical. Often-used files are cached in the solid-state portion. It speeded up my Mac by a factor of four. Fast boots and quick loading of apps. I've bought several drives from OWC and never had problems.

Thank you for the link. I will have to show him because I’m pretty sure the site was in some foreign language.
Huh? It’s in English. http://www.macsales.com/ is advertised by the same people who do the MacWorld magazine.
I was teasing, I could read all the words but I have no idea what in the world they all mean when put together that way. I am a simple girl and the innards confuse me. Anything that goes on “under the hood” is for people that are much smarter than I.
I’ve been working on computers for many decades and innards of them still confuse me, so don’t let that stop you from tinkering with them. The instructions I got with the new hard drive made it easy to clone the drive and install it. Just always make notes to reverse what you did, have backups on hand, and double-check each step.
I have similar issues with Firefox on Mac and Windows, but there are extensions out there that are second to none for web development. Lately I have been using Google Chrome for browsing and Firefox for work.
That's one I never heard before, & I am not a big defender of Apple hardware.
I'd call an Apple Store & describe the problem.
