Gerry Rafferty, Singer of Baker Street dead at 63...

The Scottish singer-songwriter best known for the hits 'Baker Street' and 'Stuck in the Middle With You,' died Tuesday, the Guardian reports. The 63-year-old was hospitalized in November 2010 with liver failure and had been ill ever since.

One of the most horrific deaths I saw was a woman dying from cirrhosis of the liver....bleeding out of every orifice, clots the size of my fist when changing bedding and totally conscious for all of it....sad. Some cancer patients go more peacefully than that gal did..
This is not to downgrade those dying of other diseases. I took care of both of my parents when they were terminal of 2 different types of cancer..

I saw Reservoir Dogs for the first time last week and that song was in it. RIP to a great singer.

I agree, but given that Rafferty was co-producer, I give him some credit for the sax and guitar sounds on the track as well. “Right Down The Line” also has a nifty guitar hook.

Oh, I agree. And as a singer, he had the good sense to let the song “play itself.” Far too many in the age of “American Idol” oversing.

Big GR fan in the late 1970s. Not just Baker Street but his lesser hits as well like "Get It Right Next Time" and "Days Gone Down". Guess I figured at the time that he'd be around for decades, putting out one solid album after another but the well seemed to run dry by the early 1980s. I had actually forgotten about him until I read this post but I still have his music which I'll be adding to my iPod playlist when I get home tonight.
A very specific "Baker Street" memory is from 1978 when I was just 16 years old. I had bought tickets to a Red Sox game at Fenway and asked a girl to go with me to the game. She worked with me at the supermarket as cashier. Anyway, I happened to be bagging groceries for her when this song came over the supermarket PA. It helped me to work up the nerve to ask her to the game in between customers. She simply shook her head no and didn't even answer me verbally.
Wasn't much fun bagging groceries for her after that! Ended up taking my sister to the game instead but it just wasn't the same.
