LG Electronics (LG) has announced the release of an exclusive collection of music and ringtones written by movie soundtrack maestro Ennio Morricone. Here's all the details as contained in the press release...

The first such collaboration of its kind, both newly composed pieces as well as a selection from Morricone's legendary oeuvre, including Cinema Paradiso, The Mission and Love Affair, will be included in the collection.

To ensure that the beautiful music is paired with a suitably impressive platform, LG engineers have been hard at work perfecting the audio performance on its latest mobile phones. The exclusive music will be preloaded on LG smartphones starting with the LG Optimus 2X set to debut next month in Europe. LG smartphone users will be able to enjoy a total of 25 of Morricone's creations -- 15 ringtones composed specifically for LG and 10 of his best-known tunes from the world of cinema.

I have "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" as my ringtone. Because when my phone rings it is either Good, Bad, or Ugly.

A favorite is “The Pocket Watch”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tiTzQoEWDw

The back story of the pocket watch drives the movie For A Few Dollars More, and is one of tragedy and revenge. The watch itself is used to time duels between antagonists. When the watch stops, the shooting begins.

Which makes it perfect for a ringtone.

His music, Clint Eastwood and the other cast members made those spaghetti westerns a lot of fun.

I just watched and listened to Ennio Morricone's linked concert piece in Warsaw. Hard to describe my feelings during and after listening, but I highly recommend taking the 3.5 minute break from reality to lift your soul heavenword.

My father-in-law, an Iwo Jima combat veteran, passed away two weeks back and the funeral was this past Monday---in a foot of new blizzard snow. Between the last two Monday's, lost somewhere, was Christmas.

So thanks for the inspiring and uplifting orchestral piece, especially because my father-in-law was a musician and band leader all his life, plyaing trombone, banjo and piano. What he participated in and saw on Iwo Jima didn't darken him; he was a fun-seeker and a happy soul to the end.

The Japanese battle flag was on his office wall for years, signed by his buddies. The rifle and sword were souveniers, brought home in a seabag. I posed them and the photo for the picture.

“The Ecstasy of Gold” from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Orchestral video on youtube—awe inspiring. What a genius. He makes me proud to be human, and his achievements celebrate the best of Western Civilization. Morricone walks in the footprints of the greatest composers of any century.

One reply above I posted the more acoustically superior version of “Gold” in stereo.

Here is the ochestra doing it under the maestro’s baton live.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t. I never saw it around his house.
